How to Turn Gmail 2-Step Verification On

The 2-step verification is a popular and fairly widespread tool, used by myriads of users of any email service providers. What is a 2-step verification? Essentially, this feature allows you to ensure higher security of your email account by adding an additional layer of protection. I.e.  if you will turn on this feature, you will have to not solely enter the login (i.e. your email address) and password, but also confirm your identity with the use of your phone (either by a phone call, or by an SMS message). Strengthen the security of your Gmail account by turning the feature of 2-step verification on

Step 1. Open your browser and enter the page of Gmail 2-step verification by inserting the following link into the browser’s address line: https://myaccount.google.com/security/signinoptions/two-step-verification/enroll-welcome/.

Step 2. Once you have opened the provided page, you will see a description of how the 2-step verification feature helps (have a look at the first screenshot). At the bottom, you will see a blue “Get Started” button. Give it a click in order to proceed further.

Here, you should type your phone number in and choose the way how would you like to verify your identity

Step 3. Then, you may be asked to type your password in (or even enter your email address first). Do so and proceed further.

Step 4. Then, there will be a page opened in your browser where you will be asked to type your phone number in, unless it has been provided before. To the left side from the number, there will be a flag of your country. So, now you have to choose how you want to verify your identity every time after turning this feature on: a text message, or a phone call. As it is shown in the provided screenshot, there is chosen the means of text message. Then, click “Try it.”

Enter the code you have received or listened to; if you have not, click on the “Resend” button

Step 5. Once you have received the SMS message (or a phone call if you opted so), enter the code in the respective field. If you have not received anything from Gmail, click on the blue-colored “Resend” button and type the code in.

In order to turn the feature of Gmail 2-step verification on, click on the “Turn On” button and finish the procedure

Step 6. Now, you have just checked that the feature of Gmail’s 2-step verification works with your phone number and you are able to take advantage of it. If you are satisfied with how it functions, then proceed further by clicking on the “Turn On” button.
